Thoughts on photography......

Heresy number 1 - There's nothing special about photography

Photography is just another way of making images like painting, drawing, collage etc.

Heresy number 2 - The subject doesn't matter.

I don't think the subject matter in itself s very important. I'm looking more for interesting shapes and compositions.  Some people have made some great photographs of buckets for example.

Heresy number 3 - The image as captured is not sacrosanct.

The captured image is not inviolable.  What has made photography interesting to me in recent years is the ability to manipulate images on a computer.  I'm happy to crop, change contrast etc and I remove bits of the photographs I don't like. The important thing is the final image and I don't care very much how I get there.  Image manipulation is just another part of the creative process.

Heresy number 4 - Equipment doesn't matter.

Well it kind of matters but the guy with the creative eye and a cheap camera will always be miles ahead of the inexperienced guy with the expensive kit.  Worrying about your kit sometimes gets in the way of a good photograph anyway.

Heresy number 5 - Photography is easy compared to painting.

It just is

My big photography hero is Horst Hammann who has an amazing website. You will see where I got a lot of my ideas from on this site.

Anyway there are links to some of my photographs on the right.
